“Excel”=表格，老外说“You excel me”难道是“你表格了我”？

excel除了“表格”之外的意思。

比如老外常说的“You excel me”，

可千万不能理解成“你表格了我”。

那么excel到底是什么意思呢，

excel是什么意思？

excel作为动词，有两种意思：

第一种是擅长、善于的意思，常用的表达是“ excel in/at sth/at doing sth”，其英文注释是：

to be very good at doing sth

【译】非常擅长做某事

第二种是战胜、超越的意思，如果老外说“you excel me”，言外之意就是“你战胜了我，是你比较强”。

ps：“you excel me”有称赞的意思，我们通常可以回答他“thank you”来表达谢意，或者谦虚地说“I'm flattered”（你过奖了）。

这个短语的意思是“一字不差的、逐字翻译的”，其英文注释是：

using exactly the same words

【译】使用完全相同的词

例句：

他逐字逐句地替我解释这项条例。

Take my word for it

word 作为名词除了“单词”的意思，还有“话语”的意思。

my word 就是“我的话语”，Take my word for it的意思就是“相信我说的话，我说的话准没错儿”，相当于：Believe me、Trust me。

例句：

You'll buy nothing but trouble if you buy that house, take my word for it. 

你要是买那栋房子只会买来麻烦，我说的都是真的

have a word

这个口语表达的意思是：speak to someone briefly in private. 就是“和某人私下里谈一谈聊一聊”。

例句：

✅ Dio, I'd like to have a word with you. 

迪奥，我想和你聊聊。

mum's the word!

这个口语表达可不是妈妈的话哦，它的意思是：tell sb to say nothing about sth and keep it secret.就是“（提醒别人保守秘密）不要外传 ”的意思。

例句：

 I don't want you to tell anyone that I'm applying for a new job. Mum's the word!
